8-year-old Elisa Cardenas was abducted from her home in Central Fresno at around 8:30 Monday night.

Police say the girl was playing in the front yard of her home with another little girl when a man in a pickup drove up.

He spoke in Spanish and told the girls to get in. He apparently told the girls he would take them to the Dollar Store and buy them toys and coloring books.

One girl ran into the house, and brought out another family member. At the same time the man in the pickup got out and grabbed Elisa.

He drove off pursued by family members on foot. The girl's mother Leonor Cardenas tried to follow the pickup in her car, but was unable to catch him.

Police say they received report only minutes earlier of a man exposing himself to little girls just a few blocks away. Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer says the man and his vehicle matched the description of the abductor.

Dyer said more than 100 officers and the FBI were looking for the child. An Amber Alert was also issued.

Dyer added that Detectives are working with Probation Officers searching records for sex offenders who match the description of the suspect.
