FRESNO, Calif.

Ag officials are encouraged by their progress as they battle the Asian citrus psyllid. The insect carries a disease that's destroyed Florida citrus groves.

Here in California, the pest has only been found in parts of the south and it's been kept out of commercial growing regions. None of the insects found in California has carried the disease that kills citrus trees.

Farm land prices are rising.

Western Farm Press reports, experts say it may be a sign that the farm economy is pulling out of the recession faster than the general economy. The U.S.D.A. estimates that net farm income, has jumped 24-percent this year to over $77-billion.

The majority of demand for farm land is coming from farmers, but there is also a growing interest among investors who are looking for hard assets with a higher rate of return.

The Fresno Area Chamber of Commerce has honored the ag industry.

Workers with the Fresno Equipment Company picked up the award for business of the year. The chamber honored them for their impact in the ag industry and the community.
