The victim is only described as a man in his 50's. People who live in the area said he was often seen at the store and pushing a cart through the neighborhood. Yolanda Lewis said she was at the store two minutes before he was stabbed. "He patted me on the shoulder and said, 'hey babe, how you doing?' Other than that, he's a very nice man," said Lewis.

People who knew the victim say they have no idea why someone would target the man. LaShonda Lowe said the attack happened right in front of her. At first, she thought the victim was in a rush. It wasn't until he fell near the curb that she realized he had been trying to get away from someone. "I think the guy is punching him. But he wasn't punching, the second time I saw him pull out a blade. And when he did, that's when I started seeing blood and stuff and I started yelling to the store people, somebody call the police, somebody call the ambulance," said Lowe.

Lowe says the suspect then ran away and headed down an alley. The victim was pronounced dead at the hospital. While police try to figure out what led to the stabbing, those who knew the victim are saddened about the violent way his life ended. "He shouldn't die like that. It's wrong," said Lewis.
