Wednesday night a large crowd gathered for a tree lighting ceremony at the Merced County Sheriff's Delhi sub-station. It's in honor of 19-month-old Colton Smith. He was attacked at his babysitter's Delhi home in October of last year.

A plaque has also been mounted near the tree, which will be lit every year at this time in memory of Colton. His parents say they're touched by the tribute to their baby boy.

The ceremony was organized by a sheriff's deputy who tried to save Colton's life by performing first aid until an ambulance arrived to take him to the hospital.
