Fresno shoppers take advantage of Black Thursday deals

FRESNO, Calif.

More than 100 shoppers got an early start on their holiday shopping on this Black Thursday. Door buster deals for shoppers included TV's and navigation systems at a major discount.

The first person in line said that she got there at 4 a.m. and that in these tough times, the discounts can really help.

"A lot of things are half off, buy one, get one free and Kmart is the only store that has layaway now so that's always good," Marci Cunningham said.

Many in line said that they will be back in line later Thursday night at Kmart to cash in on their Black Friday deals when the store reopens at midnight.

Nearly 70 people waited for the doors to open at Kmart's sister store, sears, at the Manchester Center in central Fresno.

Sears opened from 7 a.m. to noon on Thanksgiving Day -- for the first time in the company's history.

Store managers say they were just responding to customers' demands and that Thursday's deals were nearly as good as the Black Friday door busters.

"I think it's the calm before the storm... only open for five hours today," Sears Store Manager Rande Johnson said.

"Basically do some shopping before dinner...get some good deals," Eric Acevedo said.

Some of the best deals luring customers to Sears Thursday included flat screen TV's, Blu-ray players, and home appliances like refrigerators.

Sears re-opens at 4 a.m. Friday for Black Friday shoppers.
