Northwest Fresno apartment fire injures one

FRESNO, Calif.

Neighbors say they woke up to flames and cries for help. The first 9-1-1 call came in at 12:39 a.m. and when they arrived five minutes later. Firefighters said two townhomes, an upstairs and downstairs unit, were engulfed in flames.

The three people living inside them managed to escape, but one of the residents, a woman, was burned on the leg. Neighbors say they rushed to help.

"It was on fire, just started running to the apartment… Yeah, she was asking for help," said neighbor Juan Martin.

"The crews did a god job of stopping this fire, containing it to the two units, all the resident in adjacent apartments will be able to get back in their units," said Joel Aranaz with the Fresno Fire Department.

Fire crews called four alarms as a precaution, and it paid off. The 55 firefighters on scene were able to stop the flames from spreading. Now they're cleaning up and investigating what caused this fire.
