Fresno suspects arrested in Central Coast crime spree

SAN SIMEON, Calif.

Investigators say the three men and two women tried to kill someone during a string of armed robberies that resulted in gunfire in Monterey and San Luis Obispo counties.

Their alleged crime spree ended Sunday night at a hotel in San Simeon. Sheriff's deputies say 28-year-old Joe Hernandez tried to run over an officer in an S.U.V. stolen in Fresno. Officers opened fire -- waking up many hotel guests.

"We were actually in bed and then we just heard like, duh duh duh duh," said tourist Charlotte Lumbye.

"All this tremendous amount of noise, I thought it was fireworks," said tourist Kathy Ciaramella.

No one was injured in shooting. The suspects all face numerous charges including attempted murder.
