Fresno man involved in police crash was intoxicated

FRESNO, Calif.

Fresno Police say Officer Caleb Janca was driving with lights and sirens to a call Tuesday night at Divisadero and Fulton when he collided with Thomas Esplin.

Esplin was arrested for driving under the influence. Investigators say he also tested positive for having marijuana in his system.

Officer Janca was treated for neck and shoulder pain and later released from the hospital. Investigators are still trying to piece together evidence from the crash.

"We just at this point and time haven't determined who had the red light and who had the green light," said Chief Jerry Dyer. "So there could be shared responsibility or... It could be totally on the fault of the other driver. But that's yet to be determined."

Officers say Esplin had a blood alcohol level of .057 at the time of the crash.
