Phayvanh Dydouangphan is accused of murdering Stanley Wallace outside his central Fresno home in early September.

The defendant says he woke up to his dogs barking and then saw the thieves. He grabbed his shotgun, and according to attorneys fired a warning shot. Prosecutors claim the victim was not threatening the suspect when he fired several deadly rounds.

Deputy District Attorney, Michael Frye said, "At that location a shot rang out. Evidence will show a shotgun blast hit the front of the truck. Hit the front right passenger side of the truck right where Stanley Wallace was sitting."

Attorneys say the suspect had several problems with intruders trying to steal his marijuana in the weeks leading up to the murder. If convicted, he faces life in prison.
