Schwarzenegger makes last-minute appointments before leaving office

FRESNO, Calif.

Roy Ashburn of Bakersfield was named to serve on the California Unemployment Insurance Appeals Board.

Ashburn had represented the Bakersfield area in the State Senate but was termed out of office. In April of last year, he served two days in jail for drunk driving. Ashburn revealed he is gay and that he had been at a gay nightclub before his drunk driving arrest.

Ashburn will receive an annual salary of nearly $130,000.

The governor appointed former Clovis Assembly Member Mike Villines to the central Valley Flood Protection Board. As one of nine board members, he will draw a salary of about $40,000 a year.

The former republican lawmaker Villines failed in his bid for State Insurance Commissioner last year.
