Members of Fresno Street Saints say the suspects stole laptop computers, toys, and bicycles from the sunset community center.
They also broke windows - and damaged the door to the neighborhood center.
The gang prevention organization just took over the center three weeks ago as part of a cost-cutting partnership with the city of Fresno.
The group's executive director says thieves tried to break in just two days ago but weren't able to make it inside.
He says despite the break-in, the organization isn't deterred in its mission to serve the community.
"They took a lot of stuff that was important to us, but we are still here and we're still going to make this work. We're not discouraged in any shape or form. We're going to make this work," Brian King said.
A grand opening for the center is scheduled for January 29. The organization's executive director says he's still optimistic they'll be back up and running by then.
