Authorities say a pickup truck crashed into the back of a big rig. That accident set off a chain reaction. Within in an hour there were five wrecks within a half mile, involving a total of 15 vehicles. One of trucks was carrying more than 3,000 gallons of sulfuric acid.

Officers say they narrowly escaped an accident when a trucker came barreling through the center divider.

CHP Officer, Sgt. Matt Drewery said, "Some of the cars actually split in between those vehicles at 50 miles per hour with people diving out of the way."

A total of three people were injured.
