"Haircuts for a Cause" raises money for Fresno Boy

FRESNO, Calif.

Around 80 people got trims during this afternoon's "Haircuts for a Cause" fundraiser in Northwest Fresno benefiting four-year-old Donovan Rivas. Rivas suffers from a rare disease that affects his connective tissue and doctors fear it could lead to heart complications.

Several stylists from the Piccadilly Barber Salon donated their time for Sunday's fundraiser and all proceeds will go to help send Donovan to John Hopkins Hospital in Maryland for treatment.

"Out of 250 connective tissue diseases he has neither, so as of now it's a medical mystery. They're still trying to figure that out, so that's why we're doing this today -- to get him to John Hopkins to do extensive research on the disease," said Donovan's brother Ronnie Rivas.

Organizers estimate they raised about $800 for Donovan.
