Matt Mueller Blood Drive at Buchanan High School

FRESNO, Calif.

Students, staff, and members of the community began giving blood Tuesday at Buchanan High School. 11 hundred people donated blood during last year's blood drive. The goal this year is 12 hundred.

Students as young as 16 years old can donate. More than a dozen teachers are giving extra credit -- encouraging students to give to a worthy cause.

Teacher, Colette Miura said, "One pint of blood affects three human beings, three people and we are all into it."

The blood drive is held in honor of Matt Mueller, Buchanan's first activity director. He started the drive and passed away in September 2000.

The blood drive runs through Thursday the 27th at the school's multi-purpose room, from 2:30 to 7:30 p.m.
