Fog delays flights and schools

FRESNO, Calif.

Central High has been on a foggy day school delay every day this week. While the school is in the city limits, many of its students are bused in from rural areas where it has been too foggy for buses to safely drive in.

That's been the issue all over the valley and Friday morning was no exception.

Across town, four departing flights at Fresno Yosemite International were canceled Thursday night. They were the early morning flights scheduled to fly to San Francisco, Los Angeles, Salt Lake City, and Phoenix.

The issue has been -- the fog's been rolling in early every evening, which prevents the planes from flying in that are needed to turn around for the morning flights. Those flights have been canceled altogether while others have been delayed for hours until the fog lifts later in the day and planes can fly again.

One of the foggiest mornings was Monday -- when 75 schools and districts called in delays.

Many of the schools have extra days built in to their school year so even with all the lost instruction time, they're still okay.
