Double Shooting in Southwest Fresno

FRESNO, Calif.

Police had Southwest Fresno apartment complex surrounded as they investigate a shooting that left two people injured. One, with a gunshot wound to the head.

The shooting happened around 8:40 p.m. Sunday night at an apartment complex at Church and Martin Luther King Boulevard.

Police have evacuated part of the complex.

Fresno Police say there were at least two separate shootings. The gunmen fired off as many as 20 rounds and struck two men -- one of them was shot in the head. An ambulance rushed the victim to Community Regional Medical Center where he's listed in critical condition.

The other victim was hit in the abdomen but walked to a gurney. He's expected to be okay.

Investigators say there were multiple gunmen and that they ran away from scene in different directions.

Police brought in their Violent Crime Impact Team as well as their District Crime Suppression Team. They also called in their "MAGEC" team which is comprised of multiple local law enforcement agencies.

Officers admit it's been challenging to help secure the perimeter.

"Basically on this scene if you can image there's just a great deal of tenants out. Of course you had the victims, paramedics, Fire Department. In addition to that, tactical teams deploy throughout this apartment complex and the general area searching for the suspects," said Lt. Mike Doyle with the Fresno Police Dept.

The Summercrest apartment complex remained taped off for several hours Sunday night. Some tenants had trouble getting in and out of the complex because of the large crime scene.

If you have any information on this case you're urged to contact police.
