2 puppies die in Fresno house fire

FRESNO, Calif.

The fire broke out just before 1:30 a.m. Friday at the home located on Weldon and Weber.

The Fresno Fire Chief says the fire was contained to just the kitchen and one bedroom, but the rest of the house was heavily damaged by smoke.

The family had been living without power or gas for over a year and were using candles and a wood stove. All the people were able to get out of the house safely, but two puppies died in the fire.

Investigators are still trying to determine what caused the fire.
