Fresno group protests SPCA

FRESNO, Calif.

Fix Fresno claims the CCSPCA has a much higher euthanasia rate than other shelters.

They say things like low cost spay and neuter clinics, trap and release programs that spay and neuter feral cats and improving sanitation within the shelter can help.

SPCA officials agree but they say it all comes down to the community.

"We do want people to know we have a high euthanasia rate because the only way we're going to change that rate is to have the community aware of the fact that there are too many animals concentrated in the whole entire Central Valley that need a home," Beth Caffrey said.

Caffrey says the SPCA is looking for creative ways to save more animals. But she says no other groups have come forward with ideas, yet.
