Senate Republicans pressure Obama on trade deals

WASHINGTON

Republicans are demanding that the administration send to Congress trade agreements with South Korea, Colombia and Panama. White House trade officials say the Korean agreement is ready for congressional action, but that more time is needed on Colombia and Panama.

Last week both House and Senate Republicans made clear that they would withhold action on the South Korean pact unless the administration submits the other two to Congress for ratification.

Obama recently nominated Commerce Secretary Gary Locke to be ambassador to China. He has yet to name a successor.
