CSU to enroll fewer students amid budget cuts

LONG BEACH, Calif.

At Tuesday's Board of Trustees meeting in Long Beach, CSU administrators outlined strategies to address a $500 million cut proposed in Gov. Jerry Brown's state budget plan.

In addition to the enrollment reductions, university officials say the system's 23 campuses are being asked to reduce their budgets by $281 million. Those cuts could lead to fewer course sections, larger class sizes and less faculty and staff.

Administrators warned of more severe consequences if the 23-campus system loses even more state money than expected.

If CSU loses $1 billion, the state Legislative Analyst's Office recommends that CSU further reduce enrollment, raise tuition and cut staff compensation.
