The accident happened around 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon in the area of Cleveland and Gateway across from Rotary Park.
Investigators say the victim, identified only as a man in his 20's was walking along the tracks when he was hit.
The train's conductor says he blew the horn when he saw him but the victim didn't turn or look back.
Investigators are now looking to see if the man was distracted by headphones or a cell phone.
