Fresno County ranks 43rd among the least healthy in California

FRESNO, Calif.

Madera is the lowest-ranking county, coming in at 49th. And Merced placed 35th out of 56 counties. All others, including Fresno, were in the 40-range.

The report, from the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute, is based on mortality rates, quality of life, high school graduation rates, and unemployment.

Bay Area counties did the best, with Marin ranking first in California.
