Somber ceremony commemorates Armenian Genocide

FRESNO, Calif.

The morning ceremony marked the end of Sunday's 'March for Justice' in commemoration of the Armenian Genocide.

Many who attended held signs -- demanding that the U.S. Government and Turkey recognize the massacre of 1.5 million Armenians, beginning in 1915.

"Turkey denies it. The whole world knows it happened. And Turkey knows also that it happened but they don't want to admit it. They don't want to admit their guilt," Fr. Vahan Gosdanian said.

City leaders and U.S. Representative Jeff Denham joined the Armenian people Sunday -- calling for a formal recognition of the Armenian Genocide.

It's estimated 50,000 people of Armenian descent are living here in Central California.
