The freeway was closed following the crash just after 1 a.m. early Tuesday morning. The CHP was able to divert traffic off the freeway at road 12, but traffic backed up as the commute progressed. Road crews were able to clear the crash and the highway reopened just after 6 a.m.

The C.H.P. says the crash happened in a construction zone. The driver apparently drove off the shoulder which was under repair -- then over-corrected which resulted in the truck flipping on its side. The rig was carrying huge rolls of paper which scattered all over the roadway.

The driver was airlifted to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.
