Locals selected in NFL Draft

FRESNO, Calif.

The ruling was effective immediately, meaning players are barred again from their respective team facilities.

But the draft did go on Saturday, and in the fifth round the Pittsburgh Steelers selected reigning WAC Defensive Player of the Year Chris Carter. The Steelers have a history of drafting college defensive linemen and successfully converting them to outside linebackers in the NFL.

In the seventh round, three more local products were taken. The Denver Broncos took former Tulare Union star Virgil Green with the 204th overall pick.

Green fell in the draft because of concerns over a past knee injury. Six picks later the Atlanta Falcons selected former Bulldog guard Andrew Jackson. And the Oakland Raiders took former Lemoore high standout David Ausberry with their seventh round compensatory pick.
