Infant teething medications linked to blood condition

FRESNO, Calif.

The Food and Drug Administration says there's a link between infant teething medications and a serious blood condition.

The F.D.A. says the numbing medication used in gel and liquid over-the-counters like Anbesol and Baby Orajel is raising those concerns because it's been linked a blood condition in which the blood doesn't effectively move oxygen throughout the body. In the very worst cases it can be deadly.

The F.D.A. is advising parents not to use products with benzocaine on kids under two -- unless advised differently from a health care professional.
