Fresno State's ASI President Pedro Ramirez graduates

Ramirez spoke briefly during Saturday's event. Earlier this year, he came under attack after revealing he's an illegal immigrant. Shortly after making that announcement, Ramirez crashed a truck into a tree while giving a ride to friend.

Ramirez tells Action News getting his degree is bittersweet. "We accomplished a lot of things and that's the good thing. The bitter part is, I'm going to get a bachelor's degree that I can't put to use because I can't get a job. So, I can only do so much with what I have and hopefully in the future, things will change."

Ramirez tells Action News he plans to get his master's in public administration. As for student government, Ramirez says he will likely get involved, but only as a consultant.
