The Cove Fire started Friday near Lake Isabella about 50 miles East of Bakersfield.
The US Forest Service says the fire is now about 45 percent contained after burning 1,400 acres.
Thousands of people who were told to evacuate have been able to return to their homes.
Dozens of Valley firefighters are among the hundreds battling this blaze.
Officials expect to have the fire fully contained by Tuesday.
