Police got several calls Sunday night of a man with a gun on Shields near Del Mar.
Officers say they saw the man with a gun, and blocked off surrounding streets for safety.
Police were able to get the gun from the man.
They say he then pulled out a knife and asked officers to shoot him.
Officers tasered the man and took him into custody.
He was taken to the hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.
