Valley veterans hold concert for Emily Lavender

FRESNO, Calif.

"It's stirring. I love it." said one event goer.

Many who arrived didn't even know six year old /*Emily Lavender*/ but decided to come out anyway.

"I just thought it was the right thing to do to come out and to support this particular family. And to donate to the cause after hearing about their circumstances." Said Randall Malan of Clovis.

Fresno Police say Emily was the victim of an accidental shooting back on May 29th. Investigators say her two year old half brother got his hands on a semi-automatic weapon that belonged to her step father.

Jarred Dubois could end up facing criminal charges after police found 53 guns inside the home. No arrests have been made.

None of that seemed to matter Wednesday. The people here came to heal emotionally and to support the family by donating money to help pay for Emily's funeral costs.

Other local veterans offered their musical talents at the concert as well. This band performed country star George Strait's "Wrapped" song in what was described as Emily and Dubois' favorite tune.

Local veteran leader Charlie Waters organized the benefit concert. He decided to host this event and help facilitate the funeral services for Emily once he found out Dubois himself was a veteran and that the family couldn't afford a proper burial.

"And when I saw her I found that the family couldn't bury her. As a veteran and he was a marine veteran I just couldn't let that happen. I couldn't let them not bury her." said Waters.
