Zito praises Grizzlies fan base

FRESNO, Calif.

"The Fresno fans were great," Zito said. "I had a great time my two starts here, last Thursday and tonight. They were really supportive and it seemed like they were having fun out there."

The 2002 AL Cy Young Award winner gave the Fresno faithful plenty to cheer about, going 2-0 with the Grizzlies, including a complete game two-hitter in his final outing Tuesday night. He said the Chukchansi Park crowd had a role in his final strikeout.

"It was firing me up," said Zito. "They sounded a lot louder than how many people were out there tonight. So yeah, they definitely had a lot to do with me getting that last one because it was my last hitter."

Moving forward, Zito says he feels ready to get back to the big leagues, and help the Giants defend their World Series crown.

"I want to join the team as soon as possible," said Zito. "That's not up to me. I just go out and have fun and pitch, do my thing. And let them make decisions."

Zito met with Giants manager Bruce Bochy in San Francisco Wednesday to discuss their next move. He is expected to pitch one game of next Tuesday' doubleheader, at Chicago's Wrigley Field.
