7/5/2011 Ag Report

FRESNO, Calif.

Recent warm weather in the San Joaquin Valley brought nectarines and plums to their peak ripeness.

Apricot growers say the previously mild weather allowed their fruit to reach full sweetness and flavor this year.

Harvests for stone fruits, including peaches and nectarines are now underway across the state.

Meanwhile, California's cherry harvest has come to a close.

The nation's fresh pear season is expected to begin next month.

The California Pear Advisory Board, set a pre-season crop estimate of just over 4-million boxes. This year's estimate is a bit higher than last year's pear crop which came in at 3.6-million boxes.

The majority of the crop is expected to be Bartlett Pears, followed by Bosc Pears.
