Woman escapes upside-down car in Fresno Co canal

FRESNO COUNTY, Calif.

It happened in the area of Butler and McCall. Fresno County Fire Officials said the woman somehow lost control of her car, which ended up flipping over and getting wedged in the canal. The woman was able to break through the window of her car and get out -- just as it started to fill up with water.

Authorities say that decision saved her life. "She's very fortunate to have made it out of the water. The quick moving water that going downstream was forcing her doors closed, so she was able to get out one of her windows," said John Dominguez with the Fresno County Fire Department.

A good-Samaritan was able to help her out of the canal after she made it out of the car. She is now at Community Regional Medical Center recovering from moderate injuries.
