Kingsburg Posse softballers stay undefeated

FRESNO, Calif.

Pitching has been a big reason why. Anika Protzmann and Jennah Torres have led the posse in the circle. Protzmann has racked up 156 strikeouts in the six tournaments, and Torres is right behind her, with 117 strikeouts. The duo has led the Posse to 16 shutouts.

The Posse bats can do some damage as well, outscoring their opponents by a 10-to-1 ratio.

"We just don't get stressed out and we just put our heads in the game and play," said Protzmann

"That's what is making us a great team," said Head Coach George Prendez. "These girls just love the sport. Sometimes it's been hot the past couple of weeks, but they come out here, sweaty little girls, and they're ready to play. They want to be out here."

Throw in strong parental support - most parents come to every practice - and the Posse is developing a perfect recipe for softball success.

"We're a small little town," explained Prendez. "We're going up against the big cities. We have 14 girls? We had 20 girls try out. Other teams have 40 girls to try out.

"Some other towns have two teams, and we're just trying to get together one team. And they still can't touch us."
