Fresno State Football preps for season opener

FRESNO, Calif.

It's an exciting time for Fresno State Football. Crews are hard at work this week putting the final touches on the new turf at Bulldog stadium. While the field is almost done, sand has to be worked into the individual blades of grass to give the field a natural look and feel.

As workers sketched out the lines, letters and numbers in time for the home opener at Fresno State in October, The team made the rounds at media day to talk about the upcoming season and it's first game against Cal next month at Candlestick Park.

"This is the time of year as a coach you really look forward to," said Fresno State Football Coach /*Pat Hill*/, "It'll be a great competitive game to play. The coach was a former Bulldog. He played right here in this stadium... it'll be a very hard hitting, physical and our players look forward to those types of games."

Taking the field this year as the new starting quarterback is /*Derek Carr*/. "We're ready to go. I've been waiting for this a long time."

Carr talked about his hard work going into the season, the 28 new players who've never played /*Bulldog Football*/ before, and the advice his All-American brother gave him about tackling some tough teams as part of a demanding schedule. "Treat them all as if they're Cal, and if we can do that we'll come out ready to play everyday."
