Fresno Police say around midnight Saturday a man was driving southbound on Fresno Street toward Belmont when he hit a fire hydrant and then crashed into a parked car. The impact sent water gushing 30 to 50 feet into the air flooding the intersection.
Authorities say the driver fled the scene but was pulled over less than a block away. Fresno Police say a breathalyzer test showed the driver was under the influence of alcohol and arrested him for misdemeanor DUI and hit and run.
Authorities say a second driver also arrested last night. "A friend following him was also arrested for drunk driving. So we got two DUI arrests out of this one crash," Robert Dewey said.
The water from the fire hydrant was put out about an hour after the accident.
