Kids get first hand experience on how to grow food in Fresno

FRESNO, Calif.

With the help of the West Fresno Health Care Coalition, California Women for Agriculture and volunteers, kids began planting a fall garden in Southwest Fresno.

The work included the installation of a drip irrigation system to provide water to the plants as well as planting seeds that will eventually grow into fresh food. "There's been a great collaboration with many partners to help refurbish this garden and bring new life to the garden so children can grow and eat fresh fruits and vegetables," Sharon Gallagher said.

The garden is part of a project to help confront childhood obesity by providing low income children with fresh food and a workout.

The Fresno Monster Hockey Team was also on hand Saturday with their mascot Deke.
