Memorial service held for teacher killed in cycling accident

FRESNO, Calif.

Scott Nelson, 41, died last week when the bicycle he was riding crashed into a teenager on Rocky Hill Road just outside of Exeter.

Saturday, a steady stream of mourners walked into the Visalia First Assembly Church to pay their respects.

Nelson was remembered as a loving father and inspiring teacher. Nelson taught math at Mount Whitney High School and several former students attended the memorial service.

"He was a great teacher. He was always there to help. He inspired me to actually do stuff. He made me care for math," Jacohb Medina said.

"We're on the same soccer team as Ethan and we were in boy scouts with him. Scott was just so involved with those kids he was inspiring to watch," Kevin Hardwick said.

Friends have set up a memorial fund to help Scott Nelson's family. Donations can be made at any branch of Visalia Community Bank.
