Michigan professor: High schools not preparing kids for real life

FRESNO, Calif.

One Michigan college professor says it's time for public high schools to re-vive home economics. She says too many Americans simply don't know how to cook -- and our diets, consisting of highly processed foods made cheaply outside the home, are a big contributor to the country's serious obesity problem.

The original home economics class used a scientific approach to teach kids basic but important household skills -- especially about producing good, nutritious food.
