The man has been identified by authorities as 65-year-old Robert Shaver.
Rescue personnel said they received a call that Shaver's kayak had capsized in a wildlife water preserve near Milburn and Athens around 7 p.m. Friday evening.
Water rescue teams responded to the call and performed CPR before transporting Shaver to the hospital.
