Two people die from West Nile Virus in Kern County

FRESNO, Calif.

The state health department says Kern County has confirmed that an 86-year-old man from Arvin -- and a 37-year-old man from Bakersfield - died from the disease. They're warning people to take precautions to prevent catching the virus.

West Nile Virus is transmitted to humans, birds and animals by the bite of an infected mosquito.

The deaths are the first in California from West Nile this year.
