This week, Governor Jerry Brown signed a bill requiring kids to be at least eight years old before they can stop using a booster seat.
The new law kicks in on January 1, 2012.
Under current law, kids can abandon their booster seat once they're six years old or 60 pounds.
Safety experts say raising the age limit gives children a 50-percent better chance of surviving a crash if they're using the proper restraint device for their size.
