Clovis ceremony, memorial honor veterans

FRESNO, Calif.

Nearly a dozen flags were retired as part of a dedication ceremony for a new memorial at a Clovis restaurant.

The monument honors 11 Clovis servicemembers who have died in Iraq and Afghanistan, and was paid for through community donations.

"We're honoring them and all the other veterans in the valley," Jim Anderson of Clovis VFW post 3225 said. "We want to show respect for them and they are not forgotten."

Family members of some of the fallen veterans attended today's ceremony.

The monument stands in front of Sandy's Country Junction.

The restaurant's owners came up with the idea of a memorial and then helped with fundraising efforts to make it a reality.
