Elijah De La Cerda was one of several children and adults with down syndrome at Tuesday's Board of Supervisors meeting. He was featured on the cover page of a 2011 Toys R Us Toy guide, along with actress Eva Longoria. The guide is available at stores around the country and gives recommendations for children with special needs.
The five year old's mother said others with downs syndrome have given their praise to the little boy. "They looked at the cover and wrote a letter to Elijah, thanking him for being on a cover because they've never seen a person with down syndrome on a cover and its been very rewarding," said Jami De La Cerda.
At the supervisor meeting, they proclaimed October as Down Syndrome Awareness Month, in Fresno County. They also let little Elijah take a spot in Supervisor Phil Larson's seat.
