1 dead, 7 injured in fiery Porterville bus crash

FRESNO, Calif.

According to the Porterville Police Department, a Dodge Neon rear-ended a bus that was stopped at a red light on eastbound HWY 190 at Jaye Street. The Neon was traveling at a high rate of speed and burst into flames, after it struck the bus.

Tashia Laird, 27, of Porterville, who was a passenger in the Dodge Neon, was pulled from the burning vehicle, but died at the scene.

The driver of the Neon, 26-year-old Francisco Luna of Strathmore and passenger 21-year-old Omar Ibarra of Lindsay, were airlifted to a Fresno hospital with major injuries. Both are expected to survive.

Five passengers on the bus complained of pain and were transported to Sierra View District Hospital where they were treated and released.

According to the Porterville Police Department, alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.
