Paid intern program aims to help future teachers

FRESNO, Calif.

Community and education leaders, including John Welty and Larry Powell, announced the internship program Monday at Rowell Elementary School.

Fresno State excels in their teacher-preparation programs and the grant will help support those looking to get hands-on experience.

Fresno State teamed up with Valley elementary schools through the 'Teaching Fellows Foundation' and the Fresno County Office Of Education to help improve the quality of future teachers and help Valley students succeed at the same time.

"We partnered with Fresno State in order to do some very special things with Teaching Fellows. We want every kid to have the support, to learn something after school, be engaged and have a future as a result," said Fresno County Schools Superintendent Larry Powell.

This will be the largest paid internship program in the CSU system.
