A permit allowing the protesters to be at the park overnight expired at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday morning, but people were still protesting all night. Sheriff's Deputies haven't kicked anyone off the property because county officials issued a two day grace period for people to leave the area peacefully.
Now that the permit is expired people aren't allowed to be in the park from midnight until 6 a.m. -- but more than one-hundred people stayed as late as 1 a.m. Tuesday morning, and about 20 people stayed the rest of the night. The protesters have clearly ignored notice given by the county and the threat of arrest isn't deterring "Occupy Fresno" protesters from continuing to remain in the park.
"If they arrest everybody's willing to be arrested, and they forcibly remove everybody from this property, from county property we are going to regroup and redeploy to city property. So that way it's going to take them time to go through the process to get us removed," said Steven Avila with the Occupy Fresno movement.
The protest is part of a nationwide movement aimed at corporate greed on Wall Street. There have been heated and sometimes violent altercations in places like Oakland -- but so far the Central Valley protests have remained peaceful.
