Occupy protesters evicted in Downtown Fresno; 13 arrested

FRESNO, Calif.

The protesters refused to leave Courthouse Park in Downtown Fresno when deputies in riot gear showed up to enforce an eviction notice issued this past week. Their permit to assemble expired November 1st and the group decided not to renew it.

Early Sunday morning deputies told the demonstrators they had to take down their tents and leave the area. But after hours of discussion, deputies arrested 13 of the protestors who still refused to go.

Fresno County Sheriff Margaret Mims was at the scene and says she's glad the situation ended peacefully.

"We chose today because it was the time with the least chance of violence, pleased with the turn out, they met their mission and we will keep deputies out there this weekend to make sure they don't come back," said Sheriff Mims.

Demonstrators have been camping out at the park for more than three weeks now.
