The San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District has issued the first burn ban of the 2011-2012 winter season for Fresno and Kings Counties.
The ban runs through midnight Wednesday night and applies to burning wood, pellets and manufactured fire logs in fireplaces or outdoor fire pits.
The only exceptions include homes that do not have natural gas service and homes where a fireplace is the only source of heat.
Residents are encouraged to check on any current bans before they light.
