Give a Gobbler campaign aims to feed Valley families

FRESNO, Calif.

The program provides struggling families with turkeys for the holidays.

The birds are raised by poultry science students at Fresno State, packaged by Zacky Farms and then distributed through several charities including the Community Foodbank, Bulldog Pantry and Poverello House.

Organizers say for just $25, you can help needy valley families have an amazing holiday meal.

"Last year we provided over 450,000 meals to this community," Kathryn Weakland of the Poverello House said. "That's a lot of meals. Hot meals, to for families to provide their children with hot meals is really critical and to be able to take that little budget item out so they can pay their rent, their car payment - it's really big."

The turkeys can be purchased at the Gibson Farm Market at Barstow and Chestnut Avenues.

This year's goal is to donate at least 150 birds.
